Release Notes Version: [1.06] Last Revised: [03/12/2009] Products: DPO2012/DPO2014/DPO2024/MSO2012/MSO2014/MSO2024 This firmware supports the DPO2000 and MSO2000 Series oscilloscopes. History ------- V 1.06 03/12/2009 New Features: - FFT math feature with the appropriate FFT PI/GPIB commands as documented in the "DPO2000 and MSO2000 Series Programmer Manual." The following are additional DPO/MSO2000-specific FFT PI/GPIB commands that are not currently described in the released Programmer Manual: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :MATH:SPECTral:NYQUISTFreq? Description: Returns the Nyquist frequency used for the FFT math waveform. Query-only. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :MATH:SPECTral:GATing:INDICators? :MATH:SPECTral:GATing:INDICators <Boolean> Description: Only for those instruments that provide thumbnail waveforms and compute the FFT math waveform based on a portion of the LRL source waveform provide this command. This command enables or disables the display of indicators to indicate the portion of the source waveform record which is used to compute the math FFT waveform. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :MATH:SPECTral:GATing:INDICators:STARt? Description: This query-only command returns the starting point in the source waveform record that is used for computing the FFT math waveform. The value returned is the fractional portion of the source record (between 0 and 1). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :MATH:SPECTral:GATing:INDICators:END? Description: This query-only command returns the ending point in the source waveform record that is used for computing the FFT math waveform. The value returned is the fractional portion of the source record (between 0 and 1). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bug Fixes: - On four channel oscilloscopes, this release fixed the Save Screen Image to USB Memory behavior. This corrects the mismatch between what is on the screen and what is saved in screen image file. V 1.02 10/15/2008 Initial Release Instructions These are the installation instructions for replacing the firmware in a DPO2000 or MSO2000 series oscilloscope with the firmware in the DPO2000_v*.zip file. Note that even though the file is named "DPO2000", it supports the MSO2000 series products as well. Contents of this zip package: install_v1.06.txt - this text file DPOMSO2000ExternalReleaseNotes_v1.06.txt - describes differences between firmware versions firmware.img - oscilloscope firmware file readable by the DPO2000 and MSO2000 Caution: Loading new firmware will cause all previously saved setups and reference waveforms to be deleted. You may wish to save the internal setups to external .set files, and the internal reference waveforms to external .isf files, before loading the new firmware. (To find the relevant menus referred to in the following directions, push the Save/Recall button labeled "Menu" which is located on the oscilloscope front panel, below the screen.) To save an internal saved setup to a .set file, first recall the setup. Then go to the Save Setup menu and select "To File" and proceed to save to a USB flash drive. After the new firmware has been loaded, you may recall each .set file. Save each one in turn to an internal saved setup by using the Recall Setup and Save Setup menus respectively. To save an internal reference (Ref) waveform to a .isf file, first display (turn on) the reference waveform. Then go to the Save Waveform menu, set the Source to the appropriate Ref, set the Destination to File, and proceed to save to a USB flash drive. The oscilloscope can only recall single-waveform .isf files. You should: - Make sure to use Internal (.isf) file format, not Spreadsheet (.csv). Push the File Details side bezel button to adjust the file format if necessary. - Be certain to save each reference waveform to a separate .isf file. Do not use the save-all-waveforms-to-a-single-file feature. After the new firmware has been loaded, you can recall each .isf file to one of the reference waveforms, using the Recall Waveform menu. Instructions: 1. Unzip the DPO2000_v*.zip file and place the 'firmware.img' file on a USB flash drive in the root or topmost folder. 2. Turn the oscilloscope off. 3. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB Host port on the front of the oscilloscope. 4. Turn on the oscilloscope. After a few seconds, the screen will display a message stating that the firmware upgrade procedure is in progress. Do not turn off the oscilloscope or remove the USB flash drive until notified to do so! The procedure takes between eight and twelve minutes, depending on the brand and speed of USB flash drive being used. 5. After the screen states the upgrade is complete, turn off the oscilloscope. 6. Remove the USB flash drive. 7. Turn on the oscilloscope. When the oscilloscope powers up, you should see a message indicating that the firmware upgrade procedure has successfully completed. Currently Installed Version: The firmware version currently installed in the oscilloscope is shown in the About menu. Push the Utility button, then the bottom bezel button labeled "About". Troubleshooting: - If you try to load an older version of firmware, or the same version that is currently installed, the oscilloscope will not load the firmware and will display a message indicating the firmware on the USB flash drive is not newer than the current firmware. You can force the oscilloscope to load the USB flash drive's firmware.img file by creating an empty file called "override.txt" on the USB flash drive in the root or topmost folder. - If the firmware does not load, verify that the USB flash drive is supported by the oscilloscope. Push the Save/Recall Menu button and attempt to save a setup to the USB flash drive. If you cannot save and recall .set files, the USB flash drive may not be supported. Try another brand of USB flash drive. - If the firmware does not load and the USB flash drive otherwise works fine, then the firmware.img file may be corrupted. Try downloading the firmware again. - If you are still unable to load the new firmware, please contact the Tektronix Technical Support Center.
