TriMode™ Probe Architecture

Many of today's popular high-speed serial data signals employ a small logic level voltage swing that rides on a larger common mode voltage level. One of the major reasons for this approach is that it allows the use of single power supply drivers and receivers. Differential signaling also allows the use of smaller logic voltage swings with reduced noise, even when operated at high data rates. Because of the differential signal configuration, serial data standards often call out compliance testing requirements for 1) differential, 2) single-ended, and 3) common mode measurements. Examples of the new physical serial data standards requiring these types of measurements for characterization and compliance are HDMI, SATA, and PCI-Express, to name a few.
